J. Frederick "Fred" Johnson previously served as the NTCA board chairman and currently serves as the CEO of the Farmers Telecommunications Cooperative (FTC) and its competitive affiliate, a position he has held since 2002. FTC is located in Rainsville, AL and is the state's largest member-owned provider of telecommunications services.
Fred holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from Southern Wesleyan University and a MBA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has been a CPA since 1984. Fred's career spans some 34 years in the fields of public accounting, rural electric distribution and telecommunications.
He currently represents the southeastern United States as a member of the board of directors for both NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association and the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative. He serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the Alabama 9-1-1 board and is a past chairman of that board. Fred also currently serves as a public member of the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education.
